DESCRIPTION

Adding color to textured stitch patterns is a wonderful way to add visual interest. This workshop is about simple and beautiful ways to add color to textured knitting using different striping techniques, slip stitches, and marling. While it builds on the Reversible Texture workshop, it can also be taken by itself. We will begin by surveying one-row stripes, two-row stripes, and marl stripes. Then, we consider how knits, purls, and slip stitches affect the stripes and reversibility. With this foundation, you will choose from a small selection of stitch patterns, design a motif with two or more colors, and create a swatch of your idea using a beautiful assortment of Isager yarns.

Specific topics include: one- and two-row fine striping, slip stitches, using charts for patterns with color, nice selvedges when using multiple colors, and how to think about colors and color mixing.

The swatches in class will be worked flat, but all these techniques are also easy to work in the round.

LEVEL

Advanced beginners and beyond are welcome. You must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase and decrease. If you can make a 4×4 ribbing swatch without laddering (gaps between the ribs), you will be fine.

MATERIALS

Bring the following materials:
3, 3.5 and 4 mm needles and basic knitting supplies.

Isager provides yarn for swatching.
Students get a 10% discount on yarn in the Isager shop.
